BNM claims Pakistani authorities Seek to displace the local population in Jiwani due to its strategic significance
The Baloch National Movement (BNM) has raised serious concerns about the ongoing situation in the Jiwani area of Gwadar district. The party alleges that the region has been subjected to extensive military restrictions over the past week, severely impacting the local population. According to BNM, these restrictions have created a dire humanitarian situation, with civilians facing shortages of essential supplies and services.
In a recent statement, a BNM spokesperson claimed that Jiwani and its surrounding villages are experiencing a shortage of food and medicines due to ongoing military operations. The party further accused Pakistani security forces of human rights violations, including the killing of five individuals in custody and the enforced disappearance of more than 60 residents. Additionally, several houses in the Panwan area have reportedly been demolished, displacing hundreds of residents.
The BNM spokesperson argued that the strategic importance of Jamri town and nearby areas has led to intensified military activity. They alleged that Pakistani authorities are attempting to displace local communities from these strategically significant locations, likely to facilitate broader security or geopolitical objectives. The statement suggests that the military presence is not only about security but also about controlling key territories.
The party also linked the military operations to recent attacks by Baloch armed groups, claiming that the response has resulted in severe restrictions on civilians. These include limitations on movement, curtailment of access to basic services, and increased military presence in the region. The BNM contends that such measures exacerbate the hardships faced by local communities.
Furthermore, the BNM emphasized the regional geopolitical importance of Jiwani and surrounding areas. They noted that the region’s proximity to vital maritime routes has heightened its strategic value, attracting increased military interest. This, they argue, contributes to the ongoing military operations and the displacement of local populations, as external powers seek to secure their interests in the region.
The movement called on international organizations, including the United Nations and the European Union, as well as neighboring countries and human rights groups, to closely monitor the situation. They urged these entities to pressure Pakistani authorities to adhere to international human rights standards and to ensure the safety and rights of the affected communities. Pakistani authorities have yet to publicly respond to the specific allegations made by the BNM.
